The Armstrong Family has deep roots and a generations-long legacy of service to the community dating back to the 1860s when the Armstrongs were farmers in the Town of Durham, Greene County, New York.
Ed Armstrong -- Les Armstrong's father -- served the community as County Legislator and Greene County Treasurer for decades in each role. As Town Assessor, Ed Armstrong was quickly recognized as a leader and was approached to take the office of Legislator serving not only Durham but also Greenville and New Baltimore.
In addition, community service runs deeply through the extended Armstrong family throughout Greene County: Les Armstrong's aunt served as Town Clerk for Ashland; another aunt served as Tax Collector in Cairo; his uncle served as Highway Superintendent for Greenville; at the present time, Les' cousin is Judge on The Mountaintop.
Les and his wife Debra have two sons, Dakota and
Hunter. Married 22 years, Les and Deb built their home in Cornwallville in 1982 and started their elk farming business in 1996. The Armstrong's taxidermy business -- which puts Les in direct contact with the proven-critical outdoors tourism business -- was established at approximately the same time; this was done by Les and Deb so that they could devote more time to being with their growing family.

Debra -- whose service to Greene County of over 20 years was recognized on June 2, 2009 -- began her work in the Greene County Treasurer's Office doing payroll. She moved into work focused on providing guidance and support to the most at-risk members of the Greene County community nearly two decades ago and at present serves as a Supervisor for Greene County Department of Social Services.
In 2007, Debra was elected to the Cairo-Durham School Board and serves on the Transportation and Faculty Committees.
The couple's children are active in community programs including the Boy Scouts of America, Junior Honor Society, SADD -- Students Against Destructive Decisions, Community Youth League Baseball, and extracurricular school sports including soccer, golf, and baseball and school programs including theater and chorus.
